Hi Friends,

Does this sound familiar? It’s 7:30 a.m., and you’re already in the middle of a mini-crisis. The kids are still in pajamas, someone’s crying over a lost shoe, and you’re frantically scanning the room for your work bag. Your coffee is cold, the to-do list keeps growing, and the clock is ticking down. You’re somehow keeping it together, but you can’t help but wonder—Why are mornings always this chaotic?

I’ve been there. I’ve felt those same frustrations and asked myself the same questions. It can feel maddening, especially when you remember a time when mornings were smoother, and you didn’t have to fight through every step to get out the door. You miss those days when you were on time, and everything just flowed. But here’s the thing—it’s possible to feel that way again. What if your mornings didn’t feel so chaotic and draining? What if they actually brought you clarity, peace, and energy to take on the day?

You’ve probably heard it a hundred times: “Own the morning, own the day!” or “The early bird gets the worm.” There are so many sayings out there about how mornings are the key to getting it all together. And I believe that. How we start our day truly sets the tone. But with so much advice on exactly how to start, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. So where should you start?

Over the years, I’ve tried a lot of different morning routines—and I’ve helped so many clients create their own. Through all that trial and error, I’ve found a few elements that make a positive impact and are worth considering for your own mornings.

1. Set the Tone the Night Before

Prep for Tomorrow, Today. I always tell clients to do as much as you can now so your future self thanks you later. It’s simple: do what you can the night before. Preparing lunches, laying out clothes, and reviewing your to-do list can take so much stress out of the morning. Prep your bag and anything else you need to get out the door easily. When you don’t have to think as much, you’ll feel less drained before you even get to work.

2. Prioritize Your Well-Being First

Carve Out Time for Yourself. My mornings always start with a walk. Moving my body first thing helps me feel energized and boosts my mood. Whether it’s a quick walk, stretches, or a wellness ritual like meditation, taking care of your body and mind will make a difference in how you feel all day. Even just 10-15 minutes can be a game-changer. When we show ourselves that we’re worth taking care of, it reinforces our self-worth and helps us be more resilient.

3. Start with Simple, Purpose-Driven Intentions

Create a Morning Mantra or Focus for the Day. Sometimes we just need a reminder of what’s most important. It could be big-picture or something more focused, like “Stay present and patient” or “Focus on what I can control.” Reflecting on your personal priorities helps you set a more grounded tone for the day. Pick something that resonates with you and use it to create a sense of direction.

4. Nourish Your Body to Fuel Your Mind

Don’t Skip Breakfast—Make It Practical. I’m not here to tell you what to eat, but I do suggest being intentional. Think about what helps your body feel energized but not overstimulated, full but not stuffed, and hydrated. You know what feels good for you, so start the day by fueling your body with care.

5. Create a Morning Routine That Aligns with Your Life

Routines Are Meant to Support, Not Overwhelm. The best morning routine is one that actually fits your life. Start small with one or two habits and gradually build from there. A complete overhaul isn’t necessary and can end up adding pressure. A one-hour morning routine might not be realistic for busy moms, and that’s okay. Find what feels right for you, not what’s “perfect.”

Quick Recap
Mornings don’t have to be perfect every day, and that’s okay. When you start with intention, movement, purpose, and a dose of self-care, the rest of the day can feel so much lighter.
